이태리 작곡가 Franceso Paolo Tosti 는 350이 넘는 곡을 쓴 것으로 알려진다.
그의 Ideale, Aprile, Preghiera 등은 잘 알려진 이태리어의 성악곡이지만 지금
들으시는 Goodbye (이태리어 버젼, Addio) 외 Tosti의 가곡에는 많은 영어
가사의 곡들이 있다 (Goodbye의 경우, Francesco Rizzelli가 Addio로 번역).
Tosti는 1875년 영국으로 건너가 거기서 살다가 1906년 영국 시민이 되고 2년 후
기사 (knight)의 칭호를 받는다. 그의 작품에 대한 인기 때문에 그는 출판사로 부터
매년 거액의 돈을 받았는데 이는 1년에 12곡을 써야한다는 조건이었다.
Tosti의 많은 곡들이 영어 가사인 이유이다.
