I Puritani - "험난하다(treacherous)"는 수식어가 붙는 Bellini의 3막 오페라이다. 특히 주역 Arturo (tenor)에게 요구되는 고음역은 "high C 의 왕" Luciano Pavarotti 에게도 부담이었던듯... 1972년 Beverly Sills와의 공연 후 Arturo에 관하여 몇년 후에는 더 이상 맡기 힘들것이라 고백하였는데 4년 후인 1976년, Sutherland와의 공연 후 다시는 I Puritani 무대에 서지 않은듯하다.
